Tight security during ICC matches [January 06 2011]

The Government assured the fullest security for cricket players during the ICC Cricket World Cup to be in Sri Lanka from February 20 to 29.

Senior Deputy Inspector General N K Illangakoon said a special security plan together with the police, Army, STF and Air Force would be implemented to provide security.

He said security would be provided to players, ICC match officials, volunteer helpers, foreign visitors, media personnel and cricket fans during the ICC Cricket World Cup matches.

According to DIG Illangakoon, the security of all players, officials and the supporters will be provided by the Police with the help of the Army and STF. The Air Force will be provide air support in an emergency.
