New stock of AH1N1 sufficient for 3-yrs [January 07 2011]

The World Health Organization (WHO) has donated a stock of 100,000 AH1N1 influenza capsules sufficient for over three-years, the Health Ministry sources said..

At a ceremony held to hand over the stocks, Minister Maithripala Sirisena commended the contribution by the WHO to prevent spreading of influenza in Sri Lanka.

The WHO had donated 1.5 million AH1N1 vaccines worth of US $ 2.5 million, earlier.

WHO Country Director Dr. Phirdosi Rustum Mehtha said children were the main victims of A H1N1 influenza and the government needed to take precautions to save them from the influenza.
