Power piracy - CEB earns over Rs. 100 m [January 12 2011]

The Ceylon electricity Board (CEB) has earned revenue of Rs. 107 million in the last six months via the flying squad that prosecute illegal tapers of Electricity. The squad has also apprehended customers who adjust electrical meters.

During the last six months 5623 incidents were reported and the judicial fin in this regard was Rs. 59 million. In addition the CEB also earned Rs. 48 million by way of damages.

One of the main reasons to get tins high revenue was the reactivation of the flying squad under the guidance of the Minister of Power and Energy Campia Ranawaka.
