Municipalities come under new authority

<P>New authorities will be set up in Municipal Councils that will manage
cities like Colombo, Dehiwala, Sri Jayawardenapura and some other
selected cities in the country, more efficiently, President Mahinda
Rajapaksa said today.

<P>Addressing the media heads he said the government intended to create a
more efficient administrative structure in municipalities like in New
Delhi, India to get their contribution to the government’s development
process.

<P>He said the local government elections would be held in near future
for the people to select their representatives in a democratic manner.
