President opens Sanguppiddi bridge [January 16 2011]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa has opened Sanguppidi Bridge that connects the A32 Pooneryn and Krtivu road, which is a short passage to travel to the Jaffna peninsula, today.

The opening of the bridge has reduced the distance to Jaffna by about 80 kilo metres. It is build across the lagoon and the cost of the 288 metre bridge is Rs. 800 million.

The bridge with two lanes is constructed under the British Iron Bridge Project of the Ministry of Highways. Minister of Small industries Douglus Devananda, President Secretary Lalith Weeratunge and Northern Governor G.A Chandrasiri were also participated at the occasion.
