SL to switch off Analog signals by 2018 [January 22 2011]

Sri Lanka will switch off the Analog TV transmissions from 2018 converting itself to a more advanced technology of digital broadcasting, Telecom Regulatory Commission Director General Anusha Pelpita told Sunday Observer.

The pilot project will begin to replace the existing technology by Digital Video Broadcasting – second generation Terrestrial (DVB-T2) from the Western Province in 2017.

“Most of the European countries have already converted from Analog transmission to DVB - T1. We will be skipping the first version and straightaway going to the second generation technology.” he said adding the existing Analog TV sets will have to be replaced with the new technology.
