LLRC concluded public hearing [February 01 2011]

The Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission (LLRC) has concluded first phase of public hearing today. LLRC Media Consultant Lakshman Wickramasinghe said the commission has recorded over 500 oral evidences and over 5,000 written submissions from the North and East.

“ The Commission received a large number of written evidence from various people in the country and over 500 people testified before the LLRC sessions held in Colombo”, he said.

He said the Commission will analyze the written and oral submissions and if necessary, some other persons will also invite to give evidence before the LLRC, which is to submit its final report on or before May 15 to President Mahinda Rajapaksa.

President Rajapaksa in May 2010 appointed the eight-member Commission to report on the lessons to be learnt from the events in the period from 21st February 2002 to 19th May 2009. The Commission is chaired by the former Attorney General Chitta Ranjan de Silva.
