Over 1,500 prisoners will be released today to mark the 63rd Independence Day.
The Minister of Rehabilitation and Prison Reforms Chandrasiri Gajadeera said those who were imprisoned for minor offences and who failed to pay fines would be released but those who were imprisoned for serious crimes would not be released.
According to Minister Gajadeera, a group of rehabilitated ex-LTTE cadres will also be released today.
