Army provides houses for needy [February 06 2011]

Houses for the poor in Vadamarachchi and Thenmarachchi Divisional Secretariats were started to built by the 52 Division of the Sri Lanka Army in Varanni area. Director HABITAT organization Tony Senevirathne has agreed to supply the building materials for the 50 houses for the homeless people in Jaffna.

Foundation stones for the first ten houses were laid the GOC 52 Division and a few senior Army officers and the necessary labor will be given by the Army troops for this charitable act.

This is the second step of the housing programme started by the 52 Division and in the first step they constructed 152 houses for the poor and resettled people in its area in support of the 1000 houses project initiated by Commander Security Forces - Jaffna Major General Mahinda Hathurusinghe.

HABITAT is a Colombo-based Non Governmental Organization which built nearly 3000 houses for tsunami affected families in the north and the south using foreign aid and this is the first time it extends support to the Armys community work in the north.
