UPFA file 20 LG polls petitions [February 07 2011]

The UPFA today filed as many as 20 petitions at the Court of Appeals against the rejection of their nominations for the Local Government elections. Officials including the Election Commissioner have been named as respondents in the petitions submitted by UPFA General Secretary, Minister  Susil Premajayantha.

The petitions have been filed for Local Government institutions such as Valikamam, Kilinochchi, Point Pedro, Jaffna, Karainagar, Delft Island, Chavakachcheri Municipal Councils and Velanai Pradeshiya Sabha. The petitions goes on to state that the respective District Secretaries had rejected the nomination papers stating errors in the Tamil translations presented with the nominations.
