Treasury releases Rs. 850 m for flood relief [February 09 2011]

Over Rs. 350 million has been released by the Treasury to the District Secretaries through the Ministry of Disaster Management and another Rs. 500 million has been already allocated for flood relief.

According to sources, Rs. 100 million has been released to provide relief for flood hit Batticoloa, which suffered the heaviest damage due to floods.

In addition Rs. 50.5 million for Ampara, Rs. 43 million for Trincomalee, Rs. 33 million for Vauniya and Rs. 23.8 million for Polonnaruwa istricts have been granted, the Treasury said.

"Rs. 17.1 million for Mannar, Rs. 6.4 million for Mulativ, Rs. 5 million for Kilinochchi and Rs. 1.6 million for Jaffna districts have been granted to provide relief for the flood affected. "Rs. 10.5 million for Matale, Rs. 4.5 million for Nuwara Eliya and Rs. 3.8 million for Kandy Districts have already been released to provide relief for the people living in Central hills.

"Rs. 23 million has been granted for Badulla district whilst Rs. 3.2 million has been granted for Monaragala district to facilitate the damage stricken. In addition to the above one million each has been granted for Matara, Hambantota and Kegalle districts.
