Sri Lankan girls missing in Malaysia [February 11 2011]

Young Sri Lankan girls, brought to work in Malaysia, have been reported missing and are believed to have been lured by sweet-talking youths who promised them better jobs, Malaysia Nanban reported.

The paper said the girls have gone missing since the past three months.

Quoting sources from a Malaysian employment company, the paper said the agency brought in 60 girls and have lodged police reports over 13 who have gone missing from their hostels.

A company official told the daily that they had signed agreements with the Sri Lankans to work in Malaysia and paid the required levy as well as for their air tickets and accommodation here.

He said upon investigation, the company found that some of the girls had run away with youths who had promised them jobs with better wages.
