World Food Program (WFP) is planning a food security and nutrition survey in the country in March to plan the organisation's food assistance to Sri Lanka in the longer term.

WPF Country Director Adnan Khan said the organization was concerned about the impact of floods on the upcoming Maha harvest and the negative consequences to food security.

The WFP launched a 6-month emergency operation in five of the hardest hit districts in the East and North-Central of the country.

Dispatching food items for affected people in Trincomalee, Ampara, Batticaloa, Anuradhapura, and Polonnaruwa have commenced on 4 February and WFP plans to feed up to 500,000 for the initial 20 days under emergency relief.
