Two illegally operated television stations situated in Ampara District have been raided by Police. These stations situated in Akkaraipattu and Thirukkovil were rounded up by the Police and two suspects have been taken into custody at the Akkaraipattu television station.
Police said that Akkaraipattu television station had catered to around 125 viewers broadcasting around 15 programs daily. The station had been charging Rs.350 monthly from its subscribers, in addition to a standing charge of Rs. 3,000. The illegal TV station in Thirukkovil, Ampara was relatively similar to the one in Akkaraipattu and one suspect had also been arrested during the raid.
