A motorcyclist was killed and five others were injured including three policemen were injured when a Defender jeep providing security to the wife of IGP Mahinda Balsuriya’s wife, Mrs. Asha Balasuriya crashed into a shop in Sannasgama, Pelmadulla this evening. Reports said the security vehicle, providing cover to IGP’s wofe who was returning from Kataragama after a pilgrimage, had gone out of control after colliding with a motorbike and crashed into a shop, inuring the shop owner and his wife.
The motorcyclist, a resident from Pelmadulla, succumbed to his injuries while the others were admitted to the Ratnapura General Hospital. The Ratnapura police are investigating into the incident.
