Vaiko and Pandian arrested after anti Lanka protests [February 28 2011]

Indian MDMK leader Vaiko and CPI's Tamil Nadu Secretary D Pandian were among the 400 people arrested by Tamil Nadu police today for trying to stage a protest in Chennai over the alleged disrespect caused to the mortal remains of slain LTTE chief Velupillai Prabakaran's mother, Parvathy Pillai/

The Indian protesters alleged that certain Lankans had "caused disrespect" to the remains of Parvathy, who died at a private hospital in Jaffna recently following illness.The protesters also demanded closure of the Sri Lankan Deputy High Commission and tried to march towards it but they were not granted permission for the protest, the police said. Those taken into custody included Tamil Nationalist Movement leader P Nedumaran.
