Nearly 92 percent of molested children have suffered abuse by someone known to them, Chairperson of the National Child Protection Authority Anoma Dissanayaka said.

“Parents must be extremely vigilant of their children who are left under the care neighbours, members of the extended family and friends.

A child must be taught from a very young age not to protest elders touching inappropriate parts of their body and alert their parents any such occurrence” she said.

She urged the parents to constantly be aware of their child’s daily routine and do some random checks to ensure they were mingling with people that they aware of.

“ Make your child comfortable to discuss any confusing change of behaviour with you freely” she said.
