Lanka targets 800,000 tourists [March 05 2011]

Sri Lanka targets to attract over 800,000 tourists this year, the Deputy Minister of Economic Development Mr. Lakshman Yapa Abeywardena said.

He said Government had already implemented some plans to make the country popular as one of the best tourist destinations in the world and market the beaches in the North and the East.

According to Minister Yapa, the Sri Lanka Tourism Authority would offer surprise packages to the 250,000th, 500,000th, 600,000th and 700,000th tourist that arrives in the country.

He said the tourist arrivals to Sri Lanka in January, recorded an increase of 46 percent.
