The Sri Lanka Bureau of Foreign Employment (SLBFE) assured that all Sri Lankan workers returning from Libya due to the current unrest in that country would be re-employed in other countries or they will be paid compensation.

According to Bureau statistics nearly 403 Sri Lankans had returned to the island by yesterday (Saturday) and another batch of 150 workers will be airlifted from Tripoli today.

Chairman, SLBFE, Kingsley Ranawaka said all remaining Lankan workers who are at the Sri Lankan Embassy in Tripoli will be airlifted by charter planes within the next few days on the directive of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

He also assured that not a single Sri Lankan worker in Libya had suffered any injury due to the country's unrest which erupted on February 15. Ranawaka further said that soon after the repatriation process, the Bureau will deal with local recruiting agents in regard to new employment contracts with subsidiaries of same companies which are located in China, Korea and few countries in the Middle Eastern region.

He said with regard to the payment of compensation, the Bureau would deal with mother companies of subsidiaries in Libya, where our workers employed during the past several years.
