CEB earns Rs. 13 m from power pirates [March 10 2011]

The Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) has generated revenue in the excess of Rs. 13 million from the Puttalam district recently by way of fining people who have tapped electricity illegally.

The Flying squad of the Ceylon electricity Board had identified 175 culprits who have tampered the electrical meters and others who have tapped electricity from the distribution wires.

The court fines in this regard was Rs. 3 million while a further Rs. 10 million was collected as penalties from the culprits.
