National Green Awards 2011 [March 11 2011]

The Central Environmental Authority (CEA) aiming to promote green economy in the country is to hold ‘National Green Awards 2011’ to encourage industries to conserve environment.

CEA Chairman Charitha Herath told the Sunday Observer that award ceremony organized together with the Ministry of Environment will be held on the World Environment Day on June 5 and will be given awards to the best industries which have implemented environmental pollution mitigation in their production processes.

“ Many countries have switched to green economic policies par with their development goals. In Sri Lanka green economy is emerging up and as the implementing agency the CEA needs to take the lead in converting the businesses into green businesses”, he said.
