Steep rise in kidney diseases [March 11 2011]

Over 2,000 news cases of renal failure are reported annually, the Health Ministry sources said. According to sources, the Ministry allocates Rs. 350 million which accounts for 4.6 percent of the total health budget to treat kidney patients.

With increasing number of kidney patients are reported from North Central, Wayamba, Uva and East provinces, the Ministry of Health has given a special attention to these areas.

The health experts said people in the age between 40 to 60 years were more vulnerable to kidney diseases.
