LG Polls campaign ends tonight, results from counting centres   [March 14 2011]

The results of the forthcoming local government election would be issued to the political parties and the independent candidates at the counting centers itself. The preferential votes would also be announced in the same way, the Election Commissioner announced.

A copy of the result sheet will be displayed at the counting center. Each counting center has a number of counting points in which around 12,000 votes are counted. The officials will make the final result and issue at the counting center.  The Election Commissioner informed about the system to the party secretaries at the meeting held with them.

Political parties and independent groups conclude their campaigning for the local government elections by midnight according to the guidelines issued by Elections Commissioner Dayananda Dissanayake. The elections will be conducted on Wednesday at 234 local government areas, and 94, 44,455 voters are eligible to exercise their franchise this time. There will be 7, 402 polling stations in the country.
