UPFA wins the LG polls with majority mandate

<p>The United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) has recorded a victory by securing 205 out of 234 local bodies at the Local Government polls 2011.

<p>Ilankai Tamil Arasu Kadchi (ITAK), which has won twelve Councils, has secured the second highest number of LG bodies while the UNP has only won nine councils, including Kuliyapitiya UC, Gampola UC, Bandarawela MC, Kadugannawa UC and Kalutara UC.

<p>The Sri Lanka Muslim Congress (SLMC) has won 04, National Congress 02, the Up-Country People’s Front (UPF) 01 while an Independent Group has secured one local government body.
