Rs. 250m to promote living standards of North and East [March 21 2011]

The Ministry of Resettlement has allocated Rs. 250 million to promote the living standards of the people in the North and East. The Ministry expects to uplift the living standards of the people from this money and as well as to start small scale constructions in the area. A spokesman of the Ministry said that the people who lost their jobs due to the conflict prevailed for a long period would be able to find out new employment opportunities under these small scale industries in their own areas.

He further mentioned that the Ministry has allocated Rs. 30.87 million to Mullaitivu district, Rs. 25.90 million to Kilinochchi, Rs. 20.99 million to Jaffna, Rs. 1.97 million to Trincomalee, Rs. 2.23 million to Ampara and Rs. 19.7 million to Vavuniya district for the above purpose and schools in respective areas would also be developed through this fund. The ministry sources further revealed that the fund had been allocated to uplift the living standards of conflict affected people in Monaragala district too.
