President addresses parliament [March 22 2011]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa made a surprise visit to parliament and addressed the parliament a short while ago. President who joined the debate on several bills presented to the House stressed the importance of making joint efforts to develop the country as citizens who love their motherland.

He said to create a close relationship between Executive and Legislature would pave the way to strengthen parliament democracy. The President described the opening of Norochcholai power plant as another massive development assistance given to the country’s people.

The President said the Opposition should act in a responsible manner without making irresponsible statements to cater to the interests of the international community. Otherwise it would tarnish the image of the country the opposition should engage in politics in a matured manner.
