Chief Government Whip Water Supply and Drainage Minister Dinesh Gunawardene told the Parliament the National Youth Services Council (NYSC) has made arrangements to increase the membership of Youth Clubs which comes under the NYSC upto 750,000 by year 2011.
The Minister said the NYSC will also increase the total number of 9307 youth clubs which are operated countrywide upto 15,000 during this year.
The intention of the NYSC is to increase the total number of youth clubs members upto one million by year 2014.
In order to achieve this target, steps have already been taken to recruit new members to the youth clubs and establish new youth clubs with the participation of young persons in prisons, universities, school system, vocational training centres, arment sector and youths in abroad as well.
The minister was responding to an oral question raised by the UNP MP Harin Fernando.
