Jaffna Musical Festival, tomorrow [March 24 2011]

Jaffna Musical Festival, where over hundreds of Sri Lankan and international folk artists will perform country’s traditional musical heritage, will open tomorrow at the Jaffna Municipal Council Grounds.

Twenty-four folk groups from cities and villages across Sri Lanka and five international folk groups from India, Nepal, Palestine, South Africa, and Norway will perform at the festival.

The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), the development arm of the U.S. Government, is a partner in this collaborative effort initiated through the Norway-Sri Lanka Music Cooperation agreement, a press statement from the U.S. Embassy in Colombo said.

Sewalanka Foundation is organizing the event, with the guidance of Aru Sri Theatre and support from Concerts Norway.

"This year the United States Government is delighted to join such a wonderful effort to increase cultural exchanges between communities through performances, workshops and exhibition stalls at the Jaffna Musical Festival," the Embassy statement said.
