Former CDS Gen Daluwatte assumes duties as Chancellor of KDU   [March 30 2011]

Former Chief-of-Defence Staff Gen (Retd) R De S Daluwatte today assumed duties as Chancellor of Sri Lankas prestigious Kotalawala Defence University. A glamorous military parade including a Guard-of-Honor was presented by the officer under trainees at the Kotalawala Defence University at Rathmalana today.  Gen (Retd) Daluwatte preceded Gen (Retd) Dennis Perera as the 3rd Chancellor to take office at KDU. Gen. R De S Daluwatte WWV RWP RSP VSV USP LOM ndc, psc was born in Ambalangoda and received his primary education at Pannipitiya Dharmapala College and Secondary education at Ananda College Colombo.

He joined the Sri Lanka Army in 1961 and received Cadet Training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst and later Youth Officers Training at the Royal Armoured Corps Centre, Bovington. After holding many high ranking positions in the Sri Lanka Army he retired as the 14th Army Commander. He was also the Sri Lankan Ambassador in Brazil from 2002 to 2005.

The General Sir John Kotelawala Defence University (KDU) is the only university offering graduate courses in Defence studies in the South Asian region. The defence university is also a member of the Association of Commonwealth Universities (United Kingdom).  Vice-Chancellor Maj. Gen Milinda Peiris, Deputy Vice- Chancellor Brigadier ALDM Gunasekara and many other distinguished were also present at the occasion.
