Demand for electricity up due to World Cup [April 02 2011]

The demand for electricity in the country showed a drastic increase during the Cricket World Cup series, the Ministry of Power and Energy says. Sri Lanka's electricity consumption has shot up to 973.9 gigawatt hours during this time period. Comparatively last year electricity consumption in March has been 934.8 gigawatt hours.

Issuing a press statement the Minsitry assures Sri Lankans that the Ceylon Electricity Board has taken all necessary measures to ensure an uninturrupted power supply during the day of the grand finale.
