Special busses during New Year season [April 04 2011]

The Chairman of the Western Province Transport Authority Piyasena Dissanayake said that additional bus services will be deployed from Colombo and other highly populated towns for the people to travel to their hometowns during the New Year season. These bus services will be operated from April 7th to 13th. The return service of these buses will commence from outstations to Colombo from April 16.

A special permit will be issued to the buses that will be operated under this plan. The fare will be fixed and a special team will be deployed to check about the charging of these fares. He said legal action will be taken against the bus owners for any higher charges.

He said that even the passengers could make complaints about higher charges. A special unit will be established at Bastian Mawatha in Colombo to coordinate these services. The Chairman said that steps will also be taken to ensure that there will be no interruption to bus services within the western province during this period.
