Resignation not politically motivated - Aravinda [April 07 2011]

Refuting the allegations that the resignation from the Chairmanship of the Sri Lanka Cricket Selection Committee was politically motivated move, former SLC Selection Committee chairman Aravinda De Silva said there had been no political interference in any team selection matters so far.

Addressing his final press briefing a short while ago in Colombo, he said that President Mahinda Rajapaksa, who assured that there would be no interference in selection matters before the ICC World Cup, had kept his word.

“I’m exceedingly happy to step down with a clear conscience knowing that there was no interference into what we did. The decision to step down had nothing to do with an issue with the President. In fact we were encouraged by the enthusiasm shown by President Rajapaksa towards the team and cricket”, he said.
