Vakarai, Pulmudai and Silawathura, to promote as new tourist destinations [April 07 2011]

Vakarai, Pulmudai and Silawathura have been identified as new areas for tourism development, the Deputy Economic Development Minister Lakshman Yapa Abeywardene said.

In addition to this tourism development activities have already been commenced in Kalpitiya, Dedeuduwa, Pacikuda, Yala and Kuchchaveli areas which were identified earlier for tourism development, he said.

According to Minister Abeywardena an areas of 500 acres in Kuchchaveli and Kalpitiya is included into these newly designated areas.

The aimed to generate 25,000 direct employments and 75,000 indirect employments through setting up of industrial zones. This would also facilitate to provide the benefits gained by the tourism industry to the rural community.
