Prices of essential commodities in the open market should further go down as the wholesale prices of the same have declined, according to the Trade Ministry.
“We expect the retail prices to go down further during the festive season as wholesale prices of most essential items been dropped,” Trade Minister Johnston Fernando told the Observer Online today. “In normal trading, wholesale prices have a direct impact on retail prices. If the wholesale price goes down, the retail price too should go down comparatively. If this doesn’t happen, there could be some outside mafia behind,” he pointed out.
