Minister of Fisheries Dr. Rajitha Senaratne said that all fish stalls of the Fisheries Corporation will be kept open till late in the night on the 13th of this month in order to provide fish at concessionary prices for the New Year.
They can also be obtained from the Peliyagoda Fish Market complex. He said that the problem existed in the complex relating to harassment of fish vendors by the extortionists has now been solved with the interference of the President and the Defence Secretary, and all extortionists have been taken into custody.
Meanwhile, the remaining eight fishermen and the five fishing vessels in the Indian custody due to violation of Indian sea territory will return to Sri Lanka today. The fishermen and the vessels are to be handed over to the Sri Lankan navy by the Indian coastguard at Kankesanthurai.
