Mawanella Police investigating on Minister’s complaint [April 24 2011]

Mawanella Police are searching for another four suspects for allegedly issuing death threats to Senior Minister Athauda Seneviratne who had lodged a complaint with the police stating that a group including a Pradeshiya Sabha member had threatened him during a meeting at Mawanella.

The police had then proceeded to apprehend the Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha member and several of his supporters. The group of suspects was subsequently remanded till May 04 after they had been presented before the Mawanella Magistrate’s Court yesterday. It has been reported that the accused Mawanella Pradeshiya Sabha member, P.A. Piyatissa had contested in the recent Local Government election under the United People’s Freedom Alliance (UPFA) and was elected.
