UNP to appoint National Organizer today

<P>The Working Committee of the UNP is to meet to appoint its national
organizer at 4 pm at the party headquarters Sirikotha this evening.

<P>The UNP has divided into groups over the proposed nominee MP Ranjith
Madduma Bandara to the post.

<P>UNP senior MPs Ravi Karunanayaka and Mangala Samaraweera are also
contesting for the post.

<P>Party sources said UNP Leader Ranil Wickremasinghe has opposed
appointing Bandara for the post but backing the two MPs - Karunanayaka
and Samaraweera.

<P>However, the UNP sources said they will take a decision based on
majority consensus of the working committee.
