South Asian Judges Regional Forum to be held in Colombo [May 07 2011]

Commonwealth Secretariat South Asian Judges Regional Forum on Economic and Financial Crime aimed to enhance the capacity of Commonwealth judiciaries within the region. will be held in Colombo from May 13 to 15.

It is expected that approximately 30 participants from regional commonwealth countries, Bangladesh, Maldives, Pakistan and Sri Lanka will attend the meeting, Resource persons from the Asia Pacific Group (APG), the UN Counter-Terrorism Executive Directorate (CTED), the Judicial Commission of NSW and other reputed expect judges will also participate in the forum. This is the first time a forum of this nature will be held in the region and is being organised by Commonwealth Secretariat in collaboration with the Supreme Court of Sri Lanka.

President Mahinda Rajapaksa will be the Chief Guest of the Forum, where the Chief Justice Asoka de Silva, Attorney General and Head of the Criminal Law Section of Legal and Constructional Division of the Commonwealth Secretariat and other distinguished members of the legal profession from the region, and Australia, Singapore, Malaysia and the United Kingdom will grace the occasion.
