SC orders elections to SLC [May 09 2011]

The Supreme Court today ordered authorities to hold discussions and conduct an election to appoint office bearers to Sri Lanka Cricket within three months. The Supreme Court ruling came after a member club of the SLC - United Southern filed a Fundamental Rights petition on behalf of member clubs, associations and affiliated bodies of the country’s cricket governing body.

United Southern SC, in its FR petition to the Supreme Court, stated the SLC’s member clubs, associations and affiliated bodies were deprived of their legitimate right of electing office bearers to Sri Lanka Cricket since 2004 as there have been interim committees appointed by the Sports Minister.  The petitioner also claimed that the clubs were deprived their right of voting to elect office bearers of their choice, according to the SLC constitution.
