Manju wants to challenge CGF decision, Minister says No! [May 10 2011] The legal representatives of Manju Wanniarachchi have decided to proceed with an appeal against the decision in the court of arbitration for sports in Switzerland after the Sri Lankan boxer was stripped of his gold medal by the Commonwealth Games Federation. Wanniarachchi was tested positive for the anabolic steroids following his victory in New Delhi where he defeated 18-year-old McGoldrick from Newport Wales in the final to clinch the gold and give Sri Lanka its first boxing gold in 72 years. The legal representatives comprising of C.R. De Silva PC, former Attorney General of Sri Lanka, Kalinga Indatissa, Nalinda Indatissa and Asith Siriwardene, Attorneys-at-law clearly maintained the position that this order is totally biased and one made without adducing proper reasons. But Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage, in a separate press interview, said Sri Lanka would not challenge the decision of the Commonwealth Games Federation.
