No complaints against assault against mediamen - President [May 10 2011]

President Mahinda Rajapaksa said it is difficult to investigate assaults against media personalities as there is no evidence. “Even those who had been assaulted are reluctant to come forward and tell what they experience. How could Police initiate an investigation when there is no official complaint lodged?” the President told the media heads at a meeting held at the Temple Trees.

He said the law enforcing officers made numerous attempts to talk to Keith Noyar and the former Editor of the Nation. The current Editor of the Nation Gamini Abeywardene too agreed with the President and said that his predecessor did not come forward to give evidence.
