More funds for CP waste management program [May 13 2011]

The Central Provincial Council has allocated Rs 35 million for a solid waste management program in the province, Central Province Chief Minister Sarath Ekanayake said.

The funds will be used to purchase tractors to dispose garbage from the cities and other areas in the province, to complete solid waste management programs inaugurated last year and to keep the city clean.

Two million rupees have been allocated to carry out the remaining projects of the solid waste management program inaugurated last year while Rs. 30 million have been allocated for city garbage disposal management. Solid waste collection centres were set up last year in the Central Province, according to Chief Minister Ekanayake.
