With the DMK ouster by the AIADMK on Friday the 13th, pro-LTTE parties are demanding that the Rajiv Gandhi assassination case be re-opened to find the “real” culprits.
At a public meeting here on Tuesday commemorating the second anniversary of the Mullivaikkal tragedy, D Pandian, state secretary of the CPI, an AIADMK ally, who witnessed the former PMs assassination said: “The Rajiv Gandhi assassination files need to be reopened. The culprits are sitting pretty in New Delhi. Mr P Chidambaram knows all about it.” He compared the Lankan governments "war" on LTTE leader V Prabhakaran which resulted in a "genocide" of innocent civilians to recent US military operations. He asked governments across the world to work towards rendering justice to the wronged in Sri Lanka. He ended his speech with a Veeravanakkam (greetings to the brave), an LTTE usage.
MDMK chief Mr Vaiko, Eelam Tamil Protection Movement leader, Mr P Nedumaran and the CMs friend Sasikala Natarajans husband, M Natarajan, accused the Indian government of being apathetic to the misery of Lankan Tamils. They were referring to the recent joint statement issued by the Indian government with its Sri Lankan counterpart.
Calling the “Lessons Learnt and Reconciliation Commission” formed by the government of Sri Lanka as “Lies Launched and Renegade Commission,” Mr Vaiko said that no country can deny its people “right to self-determination” given under the United Nations International Covenant of Civil and Political rights. Declaring he had lost his faith on the Union, he asked the newly formed state government to lift the ban on the LTTE.
Meanwhile the state today granted permission to the pro-LTTE head of the Naam Thamizar Movement, Seeman, to hold a meeting commemorating the first anniversary of the movement at Vellore. He was denied such permission by the erstwhile DMK government. The Statesman
