Rugby - DSS beat Mahanama 12-10 [May 23 2011]

D. S. Senanayake College edged out their traditional rivals Mahanama College by 12 points to 10 points in their annual inter school rugby encounter worked off at the Royal College Sports Complex in Reid Avenue today.

D. S. Senanayake College collected their points from one goal and one try after

having taken a close 7-5 lead at half time. Mahanama College responded with two unconverted tries. Number eight Devin Ariyakumara and wing three quarter Ishara Ranasinghe scored a try each for the winners with fly half Wishwa Sampath converting one try.

Meanwhile Lumbini MV trounced St. Anne’s College by a huge margin of 60 points to 3 points in their Singer inter school ‘B’ division league rugby tournament match worked off at Kurunegala. The winners went on a scoring spree as they collected their points from five goals and five tries while conceding just a solitary penalty to their opponents. In another Singer ‘B’ division league tournament fixture C. W. W. Kannangara MMV defeated St. John’s College by 48 points to 15 points at Longden Place. In addition Zahira College had the better of Prince of Wales College 24-12 at Moratuwa and Ananda outplayed Royal Panadura 48-24.
