N' Eliya to produce quality bean seeds

<P>The central Province Agriculture Ministry has taken steps to produce
quality bean seeds in the Nuwara-Eliya district, accodring to Central
Province Agriculture Minister Nimal Piyatissa.

<P>He said bean farmers use over 200,000 kilos of bean seeds per year,
but only 18,000 kilos of bean seeds are produced in the country. The
remainder is currently imported.

<P>This move has been taken by the Central Province Agriculture Ministry
to reduce the expenditure incurred by the Government every year and to
supply quality bean seeds to farmers, piyasena noted.

<P>The assistance of the Agriculture Ministry would also be used in for
this program, Piyasena added.
