Govt restored human rights of over 300,000 civilians two yrs ago - President [May 27 2011]
Human rights could be guaranteed only through creating a peaceful country for every one to live and this government had restored the human rights of over 300,000 civilians lived under terrorism on this victory day, two years back and brought peace for everyone to live, President Mahinda Rajapaksa said addressing the ceremony to mark the second anniversary of defeating the LTTE terrorism, held at the Galle Face Green a short while ago.
He said that the LTTE remnants have started accusing the government for false allgations for their survival abroad but the government has started developing the North and East which are destroyed by the terrorists.
"We have not created a Security Force which invades countries but a force which develop the country and also help people to live peacefully", he said adding that the soldiers are committed to serve not only the people in the South but also the North and East.
Over 24,000 members of the Security Forces who made the supreme sacrifice for the protection of the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the nation will be remembered.
Nearly 9,000 members of Security Forces and the Police will participate in the colourful parade today.
