India apprehend 10 Lankan fishermen [May 29 2011]

The Indian Coast Guard (Eastern Region) apprehended ten Sri Lankan fishermen and two Lankan fishing boats for allegedly fishing in Indian waters.

The boats -- ''Chethana'' and ''Kulan Putha'' were seized about 120 km from Kakinada late last night. At the time of arrest, the two boats had a combined 5,000 kg of fish onboard. The two vessels were being taken to the Kakinada Port for handing over to the police. This is the eighth such apprehension of Sri Lankan fishermen and boats in 2011. Todate, 17 boats with 84 crew and 18,900 kgs of fish have been apprehended by Indian authorities.
