Damian Fernando, the Ranaviry Real Star [May 30 2011]

Commander Demian Fernando of the Sri Lanka Navy was adjudged the Ranaviru Real Star at the reality show hosted by Rupavahini at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium last night. ency President and Commander in Chief Mahinda Rajapaksa was the guest of honour of the grand finale of the Ranaviru Real Star talent show.

Five servicemen, two officers from Sri Lanka Navy and three soldiers from Sri Lanka Army competed in several rounds showcasing their hidden talents in the final event. The panel of judges is comprised of professionally sound and well reputed musicians and artists in Sri Lanka; namely, Visharada Edward Jayakody, Jakson Antony and Visharada Champa Kalhari Jayasekara who contributed 60 percent in the selection of winners of the competition. The rest 40 percent was allowed public to decide upon their SMS.

Commander Demian Fernando of the Sri Lanka Navy won the trophy in the face of stiff competition with other competitors, making history as the first Ranaviru Real Star. He was awarded keys to a brand new luxury house valued at Rs. 15 million by First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa. The second place secured by Private Indika of the Sri Lanka Army and was awarded keys to Toyota "Avanza" car sponsored by Toyota Lanka and Rs. 2 million. The third place went to Corporal Lalith Wickramanayaka and awarded Rs. 2 million together with the trophy. The fourth place and fifth place secured by Sub Lieutenant Saranga Sampath and Private Danushka Lakmal respectively. They were awarded Rs. 500,000 each together with the trophy. The competitors who secured positions from 24th place to 8th place were awarded special prizes by the service Commanders. In addition Brigadier Rajitha Ampemohotti and Corporal Sbashini Gamage were awarded special prizes of Rs. 1000,000 each.
