Josephian rounder Chaturanga Kumara to play for South Gate CC, UK [June 01 2011]

Promising all rounder Chaturanga Kumara of St. Joseph’s College has been awarded a cricket scholarship to represent South Gate Cricket Club, in England as their overseas amateur player in the Middlesex League for the 2011 season.

This has been coordinated successfully by Asitha Jayaweera Chairman SLC U.K Committee under the SLC’s development initiatives to facilitate Schoolboy cricketers to play in the English minor league.

Kumara Scored 1,007 runs and captured 75 wickets for St Josephs College Colombo in 2009/2010 season, and was adjudged the Schoolboy Cricketer of the Year in the same year.

Chaturanga also represented the Sri Lanka Under 19 team when England toured Sri Lanka in January 2011.  Southgate Cricket Club formally invited Chaturanga Kumara as their overseas amateur player for the coming 2011 English Cricket Season.
