Air Vice Marshall Gunathilake to head the National Sports Selection Committee [June 01 2011]

Sports Minister Mahindananda Aluthgamage today appointed Air Vice Marshall Kolitha Gunathilake as the chairman of the National Sports Selection Committee.  "The responsibility of selecting well trained, talented sports personnel for both national and international tournaments in the future lies with the National Sports Selection Committee," the Minister said.

The other members of the new committee are former DIG Nimal Mediwaka, former Director of Sports Education R.A.Kularatne, General Secretary of the National Olympic Committee Maxell De Silva and President of the National Olympic Committee Hemasiri Fernando.

After making the appointments the Minister of Sports expressed that no committee or institution could challenge the decisions taken by this selection committee.  Therefore when selecting sports persons to the national squads, the Minister emphasised that great atention should be made in preserving the prestige of the country and the future of sports.
